Sepia is an element present in the photographic development emulsion (generated in the ink extracted from cuttlefishes) which is used for manual development of photographs.

How to Make a Sepia Tone in Photoshop 2015?

Step 1: Open the photo for which you want to give a sepia tone in Photoshop 2015 application.

Step 2: Select Image, click Mode and choose RGB Color – if the picture is grayscale (/ black and white).

Step 3: Choose Image, then opt Adjustments and click Desaturate if the image is color.

Step 4: Next, select Image, then Adjustments and click Variations…

Step 5: Drag Fine-Coarse slider downwards and place it at a point where it is not more than one notch and less than the median.

Step 6: Click one time on More Yellow andonce on More Red button.

Step 7: When done, hit the OK button.

Extra Info: In the Variations wizard, you can Save the exact settings for a sepia tone. Thus, next time if you want to give an image sepia tone then, you can just apply these saved settings to the picture.

Procedure to Make a Sepia Tone in Photoshop CS6 and Photoshop CC:

Step 1: Open the picture for which you want to give a sepia tone effect in Photoshop CC/CS6 application.

Step 2: Click on the Layers option located at the top navigation bar and select Convert to Smart Object.

Step 3: Select Filter from the top navigation pane of the resultant window and click Camera Raw Filter…from the dropdown menu.

Step 4: From the right-side panel of Camera Raw Filter wizard, select the HSL/Grayscale option (fourth button from the left).

Step 5: Enable Convert to Grayscale option by checking its checkbox.

You can use color sliders present in the HSL/Grayscale window toadjust the shading and intensity of the black color in black and white images.

Step 6: Click on the Split Toning button located beside HSL/Grayscale.

Step 7: Go to Shadows section and adjust the Hue (set it anywhere between 40 and 50). Next, adjust the Saturation slider (set it around 40).

Step 8: Click OK in the Camera Raw Filter dialogue box to save your settings.
