Get Back Files from Devices

“I have 32GB mass external storage device and saved lots of valuable files in it. I have saved numerous documents, video clips, songs, pictures, project info, movies and many more files on that device. I had no problem with this device. But, today when I connected the device to my Windows system to move some files, I was shocked!!! Unfortunately, the drive opens up on Windows screen but not displaying any files in it. The device is empty every time when I expand it. I assume that the storage media has turned corrupt and made all files inaccessible. Is it possible to recover files from such device? Thanks in advance!!!”

Generally, is it possible to imagine IT professional or normal desktop users to complete their daily task without data storage and transferring files on computer? Most of the users may give a NO for this kind of query. The major contribution for storing digital data is done by devices like flash drive, internal and external hard drive, memory card, SSD drive, FireWire drive and others. Hence, those devices play a major role in preserving data for average system user to professional user. Many of the storage devices assist as secondary memory even on digital gadgets like camera, media player, mobile phone etc. However, user can be frustrated when their important files get erased or lost.

Factors which may cause data loss or deletion on devices are:

  • Abrupt removal of external devices like memory card, pen drive, etc from system during data read / write process will lead to data loss
  • Accidentally erasing files from portable storage devices while performing any other task will bypass Recycle Bin on system and gets lost completely from it
  • Using unsafe antivirus application to scan virus threats on system hard drive or external device can remove affected data without user notification
  • Accidentally using 'Delete' instead of 'Copy' option, while transferring files from external device to desktop will lead to deletion of those files
  • Unintentionally pressing Format option on storage device will remove entire files present in it

To avoid above mentioned issues, it is better to have back up of all files regularly. In case if you don't have back up of any files, then no need to make it a big issue. By using prominent recovery software, you can effectively bring back lost or erased files from external devices as well as from system hard drive.
