How to Get Back Logical Partition?

“Hi, I have partitioned my system hard drive in to two logical partitions apart from primary partition for saving different file types in each partition. However, each logical partition is installed with separate editions of Windows OS i.e. Windows 7 Professional and 7 Ultimate. Today while repartitioning a logical partition, I was mistaken with wrong procedure that ended up in corrupting logical partition with Windows 7 Ultimate that saved all my personal files and folders. So, how can I get back data from this corrupt logical partition? Please someone suggest me good recovery method.”

This is one of the reasons behind data loss from logical partition on any Windows computer. Logical Partition or LPAR is a section of computer’s processor, memory and storage along with system resources. Since LPAR contains separate set of resources, each partition can be operated with its own OS and applications; hence it is also called as logical drive. User can create any number of logical drives / partitions on the desktop hard drive and each one can communicate with other partitions as it is in another physical machine. However, one can lose data from such logical partition due to vast reasons namely:

  • Partition header damage: Partition Table / header include complete details of each partition like size, location, no. of sectors, etc., present on hard drive of a computer. Any damage to this Partition Table due to MBR corruption, virus intrusion and so on can induce inaccessibility of logical partitions on that hard drive
  • OS re/installation: While installing / reinstalling OS on a logical partition, following wrong procedure or occurrence of interruptions can damage that partition leaving all its data in unreadable state
  • Use of third party applications: Installing unsecure programs to undertake defragmentation of drive, resizing the partitions, creating new logical drive, etc. can sometimes corrupt existing logical partition and thus its data becomes inaccessible
  • Other factors: Presence of bad sectors, severe malware attacks, accidental formatting of LPAR, OS malfunction or hard drive crash are few other instances that may corrupt logical partition of hard drive

When logical partition gets corrupted or damaged on Windows hard drive due to these unforeseen scenarios, then user loses data accessibility from that partition. Fortunately, one need not lose any data from logical partition as there are plenty data recovery tools that can be used for recovering data from logical partition. Among the top data retrieval tools, Yodot Hard Drive Recovery is the most suggested software to regain data from logical partition after any unexpected data loss incidents.

Logical partition data recovery software:

This software has excellent recovery modules that easily scan deleted or missing logical partition and retrieves data from it. It can successfully restore data like MS Office files, PDFs, compressed files, folders, program files, RAW images, video files, audio files and many more file types with ease. This data restoration software is also capable to recover partition from USB drive, external hard drive, SSD, FireWire drive, etc. that are formatted, corrupted or damaged in any case. It is designed to perform data recovery from all kinds of storage drives formatted with FAT16, FAT32, NTFS, NTFS5, ExFAT and ReFS file systems. This utility can be employed on Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 and Windows 2003 OS based computers and laptops to extract data.

Simple steps required to perform logical partition data recovery:

  • Download the software on your Windows computer (suggested not to download in to logical partition from which data has to be recovered)
  • Install the tool completely and run it from Start menu
  • When main screen gets displayed, Click “Partition Recovery” option and proceed
  • Next screen shows all partitions from the system drive along with deleted / missing ones
  • Select the logical partition from which data has to be restored and click next
  • Now, you can specify the file types to recover else, simply click on ‘Skip’ button
  • The tool will scan that selected partition completely for few seconds and comes up with a list of restorable files
  • Go through ‘Data View’ / ‘File Type view’ in order to have a look at rescued files
  • Next, view details of any selected file from the list using ‘Preview’ option
  • At last save the regained data to system drive or any external accessible drive

Safety Measures:

  • Perform uninterrupted process of creating / resizing logical partitions on hard drive
  • Be smart by backing up crucial data from logical partitions in external hard drives
  • Follow proper procedure and have enough knowledge before installing more than one operating system in logical drives
