80% of the computer users all over the globe still prefer Windows over Mac, as their operating system, mainly because of its cost, flexibility and simple interface. However, if you are using a Windows system from a long period of time then at some point of time you need to re-install Windows OS.

The various types of glitches that occur over the times cause Windows to lose its stability. These can be due to viruses or software / hardware conflicts or due to improper handling of the system. Although there are many ways and tools available for fixing these errors, but in many cases complete Windows OS re-installation is the only remedy for getting rid of these glitches.

Main reasons for re-installing Windows OS

There can be plenty issues because of which you might want or need to re-install Windows;

  • Windows registry corruption is one of the main reasons due to which you need to re-install the OS. Since, the registry stores all the configuration settings and options of the OS, therefore if any of the registry file is corrupt or erased then while booting, the operating system will crash
  • Viruses like "Trojan" affect the computer both physically and logically. As they cause the system to freeze frequently that may generate bad sectors in the hard disk and in many cases leads to OS corruption
  • The performance of the system gradually decreases over the time because of the frequent errors, program settings and other system changes that accumulates and leads to sluggish performance of your system. So in order to improve system speed and overall performance, re-installation is to be done
  • Other than the above scenarios, where you need to re-install Windows operating system for proper functioning of your computer system. It is also a good time for OS upgradation

How data is lost due to Windows OS re-installation?

There are mainly two scenarios where you will lose your hard drive data after or during OS re-installation. One is, when you perform clean installation. As re-installation of Windows operating system offers two options to choose from, i.e. "Upgrade" and "Custom" and if you choose custom option then it will install the OS but will erase all your programs, settings and files. Hence, leaving you with a completely new operating system and a formatted hard drive.

Another scenario takes place, when some unknown error occurs in between the installation leading to failure. In this case, even if you have selected the upgrade option, then also there are high chances of losing the data.

  • Now the software will scan the entire partition for recovering the files, wait till the process finishes
  • As it ends, the recovered files will be displayed and you can make your selection by using the two view types (Data view and File Type view)
  • You may also view those files before saving them
  • Now, store the recovered files to a storage drive other than the one from which you are recovering. You may also compress them before saving (this option is disabled in trial version)
  • Since, the save option is disabled in trial version, use "Save Recovery session" option for saving the scan session and later after product purchase, use "Open Recovery Session" option and continue from the saving step

  • It is better and highly recommended to backup hard drive data before OS re-installation
  • In case you have lost your data after re-installations, then do not use the hard drive before performing recovery
