Emails are not actually stored as a file in MS Outlook. A complete folder like inbox is stored as a single file in PST (Personal Storage database) folder. How Can I Recover Deleted Emails in Outlook without Backup?

In Outlook 2003:

  • Start MS outlook 2003 and select Deleted Items from the folder list
  • In Tools menu select Recover Deleted Items

All the deleted emails will be displayed and you can recover from here.

In Outlook 2007:

  • Start MS Outlook 2007 and select the corresponding folder in the left panel from which you have deleted your email
  • Next, select Tools -> Recover Deleted Items option
  • All your emails deleted from the selected email folder will be displayed
  • Select the emails which are to be recovered and click the Recover Selected Items option

All your selected emails will be restored back to their original location.

In Outlook 2010:

  • Open MS Outlook 2010 and click on the Deleted Items folder
  • Click on the Recover Deleted Items option at the top
  • Select the emails you want to recover and click on Recover Selected Items option

Your deleted emails will be sent back to their original folder.

In Outlook 2013, and Outlook 2016:

  • In Outlook 2013, and Outlook 2016 go to email folder list, and select Deleted Items
  • Ensure Home is selected at the top, and click on Recover Deleted Items from Server option
  • Select deleted emails you want to recover, click on Restore Selected Items option followed by OK

When you recover emails like this, they will be moved from the Recoverable Items folder to Deleted Items folder. So, after you recover emails, go and find them in your Deleted Items folder.

Unfortunately, the deleted emails less than 7 to 14 days (depending on the version of MS Outlook) can be recovered using the above method. The emails older than that will not be displayed.
