How to Fix Outlook Error 0x800-4005: The Operation Failed

Microsoft Outlook is well-known and widely used email application. There are many activities which you can do using MS Outlook that includes, scheduling meeting, saving contacts, and many more. Despite all benefits, there are some glitches which you may come across while using Outlook. Annoying error messages are one among them. You might have seen various kind of errors while using Outlook, including error “0x80004005: The operation failed”.

Causes of 0x80004005: The operation failed Error:

Outlook window shows 0x80004005: The operation failed error mainly when you receive an email in your inbox. You will get this error when Norton Antivirus installed on your Windows has script blocking feature. Hence, by disabling script enabled the feature, you can fix this error. I have listed out two easy methods which might resolve the error 0x80004005: The operation failed.

Resolutions:

Fix #1: Restrict Script Blocking in Norton Antivirus

  • Run Norton Antivirus software
  • Go to Settings and find Script Blocking feature
  • Uncheck Enable Script Blocking option

Note: Disabling Script Blocking option may put your computer is risky.  Hence, we are not recommending this fix. Use this method at your own risk.

Fix #2: Disable New-Mail Notification in Outlook

  • Open Outlook, then select Options on the File menu
  • And, select Mail tab
  • Under Message Arrival section, untick Display a Desktop Alert check box.
  • Then press OK.

Now, your email arrives at mailbox without any error. In case, you face PST file corruption in Outlook, then use Scanpst or any third party tool like Yodot PST Repair Tool. The benefits of using Yodot PST Repair Tool is- it helps to fix various errors, including Outlook error not enough memory to complete this operation. The software can also be used to recover deleted items from MS Outlook.
