Fix AVI Files Not Played on GOM Player

“Hi everyone, hope somebody can help me out with this issue. Yesterday I have copied few AVI files to my computer. All files were successfully copied but when I tried to play them on GPM player, it refused to display the video and showed an error message that AVI file cannot be played. Does anyone have clue what is wrong? If yes then, how do I resolve this problem? Thanks”

GOM is a video player application that supports to play many video file formats on your Windows computer. The specialty of GOM player is you need not install a new audio codec as it already contains many of the popular audio codec formats. So if any media player fails to play AVI file due to codec issues, then you can try to play that AVI file in GOM player because GOM player automatically finds codec for that particular video file and plays it without any disturbance. However, if you try to play corrupted AVI file in GOM player as in above case then it will refuse to play.

Possible instances when GOM player refuses to play AVI file are:

  • Improper Exit: GOM has an option called “Exit”. If you click on this option at the time of closing, then you will be able to watch AVI file next time. In case, you close it directly by clicking on “X” mark then AVI file might get corrupted without any information
  • Virus Intrusion: When you download any AVI file from external source which contains viruses, then there may be possibility of AVI header corruption
  • Bad Sectors: AVI files present on your computer will play smoothly without any issue on GOM player. However, aging of computer leads to form bad sectors on its hard disk which will results in corruption of AVI file present in it
  • Transfer Error: IF AVI file transfer is interrupted due to power failure or technical errors, then moved AVI file may get transferred partially and will not play in GOM player; such AVI video files may display error messages when tried to play
