My cousin seems to have a problem that is “Blue Screen of Death” on his XP Acer laptop. He is not able to access data from his Acer laptop hard drive and the error message that he gets is:

“A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you’ve seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Disable or uninstall any anti-virus, disk defragmentation, or backup utilities. Check your hard drive configuration, and check for any updated drivers. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

Technical information:

*** STOP: 0x00000024 (0x00190203, 0x822DA8D0, 0xC0000102, 0x00000000)”

I tried restarting the laptop numerous times, but got the same error message. I just want to recover some of his important files (documents, pictures, movies etc) from hard disk. How to recover data after blue screen of death? Before knowing how to rescue data from hard drive after BSOD error, one should know what Blue Screen of Death and how it results in data loss.

BSOD (Blue Screen of Death), which is otherwise known as Stop Error or Bug Check is a very common error message on Microsoft Windows family. This error screen is showed by Windows operating systems when system encounters severe issues related to hardware, updates or drivers. After getting BSOD error, your system stops responding and fails to boot, where the complete data saved on your PC hard drive becomes inaccessible and is gradually lost.

There are numerous reasons due to which you might encounter BSOD error. Some of the main causes are listed below:

  • Upgrading Windows operating system in old BIOS
  • Hard drive corruption due to presence of bad sectors
  • Newly installed drivers not compatible with the operating system
  • Kernel application software failure and many others

To overcome BSOD and access your computer, you can use the following methods:

  • Upgrade your Windows OS: You can upgrade your current Windows OS to the latest one; this solves your BSOD issue. In case it is still not resolved, then go for the next method
